Mrs. Arthur Schmidt

Mrs. Arthur (Martha) Schmidt, 1410 Cotter Avenue, died at the home of her daughter Tuesday afternoon following a lingering illness. She had been seriously ill for the past five weeks.

She was born December 30, 1886, in the town of Scott to Carl and Amelia (Degner) Hass. She was married Nov. 9, 1907, to Arthur Schmidt. He died November 9, 1964. A resident of Merrill since 1947 she was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, the ladies aid of the church and the Golden Ages.

She was also preceded in death by two sons, Fritz and Norman, two sisters, Mrs. August Radloff and Mrs. William Kriewald, a brother, Martin, and two grandchildren.

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Edwin (Lillian) Zimmerman, and Mrs. Clarence (Laura) Hahn, both of Merrill, Mrs. Clarence (Elsie) Bade, and Mrs. Ronald (Selma) Adams, both of the town of Scott, and Mrs. Kurt (Dorothea) Kleinschmidt, town of Corning; four sons, Elmer, Merrill, Reuben, and Alfred of the town of Corning and Arthur of the town of Texas; four brothers, Henry, Town of Scott, Fred in the state of Michigan and Emil and Edwin, both of the town of Corning; a sister, Mrs. Victor (Minnie) Plano, Merrill; 45 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Friends of the family may call to pay their respects at the Schram Funeral Home from 1 p.m. Thursday until 10 a.m. Friday at which time Mrs. Schmidt will be taken to the church where friends may call from 11 a.m. until the hour of services. Burial will be in the St. Paul Cemetery.

Members of the ladies aid of the church will meet in a body at the church at 1:45 p.m. Friday.

Pallbearers will be Gerhardt Schmidt, Earl Schmidt, Roger Bade, John Adams, Gerald Schmidt and Gene Kleinschmidt.
