Leona W. Schmidt

Leona W. Schmidt, 87, 2100 E. Sixth St., Merrill, formerly of the town of Corning, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill.

Leona was born Nov. 6, 1915, in the town of Corning, daughter of the late Carl and Alvina (Wendt) Baumann. She married Norman A. Schmidt on Oct. 9, 1937. He preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 1966. Leona was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, town of Corning, the Ladies Aid of the church, and also was a member of the Two Leagues Homemakers Club in town of Corning. She enjoyed embroidery, cross stitching, and gardening. But most of all, Leona enjoyed the company of her many grandchildren.

Survivors include three daughters, Elvera (William) Neumann, Wausau, and Diane (Rod) Pichelman and Lorraine (Fritz) Stevenson, both of Merrill; one son, Earl (Linda) Schmidt, Merrill; 18 grandchildren;18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Elanore (Ferd) Ohloff, Merrill; one brother, Martin (Margie) Baumann, Arizona; and two sisters-in-law, Bertha Baumann, Tomahawk, and Irene Baumann, Merrill. One great-granddaughter, Hannah Krahn, and two brothers, Ervin and Carl Baumann, preceded Leona in death.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, town of Corning. The Rev. Joel Danner will officiate.

Burial will be in Immanuel Church Cemetery, town of Corning. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8p.m. Friday at the Taylor and Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and starting at 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.
