Lincoln County, Wis.

From “Lincoln County Centennial 1874-1974”

Transcribed by: Ken Wood

Tripoli was established in 1899 when Henry H. Stolle purchased 80 acres and a sawmill and began operations in 1901 in partnership with E. T. Rollins.  In 1919 Stolle opened a general store in Tripoli and in 1919 the Stolle Mercantile Company was incorporated.  Stolle is also credited with establishing the first post office in 1901 and served as postmaster for 17 years.  He also built the first road and organized the Town of Somo and was the first town Chairman.
