- This church was formed January 30,
1904, by the union of the First Church of
- Janesville (Methodist) and the Court
Street Methodist Episcopal Church. The meetings were held in
the building of the former Court Street Church, and Rev. J. H.
TIPPETT became pastor of the united societies. After worshipping
about one year under this name, a new church was erected on the
corner of South Franklin and Pleasant streets, west side, which
was named the Cargill Memorial Church, in consideration of $10,000
donated by William CARGILL, of La Crosse, Wis. The buildings
of the First Church and of Court Street Church were sold.
