CSA Grave Sites Camp Chase, Columbus, Ohio Readings from there were taken by Art Hughes and submitted to Jackson County AHGP on January 20, 2001. Many captured CSA soldiers were processed through this prison. The Hughes names I have listed are all that we found, including a Hughs. My main research line is Hughes, and the other names are mostly recorded because the surnames appear in my tree. They are not necessarily related to me. Also, some of the names were copied due to the family names containing large numbers, and known migration paths of those names, from Va. and Wva. My ancestor, William Pleasant Hughes , 1842-1913, served in the CSA from 1861-1865, in Co. B 22 Va Inf, aka as the "Jackson Border Rifles". He was born in Jackson Co, and is buried in Creston Cemetery, Mason Co. Listed are the headstone numbers, rank, name, affiliation, and death dates. Information is as we saw it, and some of what is on the stones is unknown to me as to what it means. Also, we found that the stones are not in exact numerical order in the Cemetery. Most of them are, but if you go to visit, keep that in mind. Every 1st. Sunday in June, there is a program at the Cemetery. I have pictures of all Hughes stones, and a few area shots. Email me if you want copies. 808 Cpl. A B. Hughes Co. K 1 Miss. Inf. 19 Jan,1865 288 Pvt Dillion A Hughes Co. E Thomas's Legion N. C. 15 Jul, 1864 407 C. Hughes Co. H 16 Va. Inf 5 Nov, 1864 869 Cpl. There, the stones are very close to a stone wall, with barely 5 feet from the stone to the wall. The stones in the whole Cemetery are all facing West. On stone #2, there is soldier's name on the West face of the stone, but on the back of that stone, facing to the East, was the following: 2 Wilson Adkins Citizen 1816-1863 would presume he was a war criminal, or spy for the CSA. There are similar other stones.
