BUCKLE(Y), TRITT, KINCAID
James Tritt June 12, 2001
My gg Grandfather, John TRITT and Polly BUCKLE(Y) was married in Charleston VA in 1819. Parents of John is believed to be Peter and Elizabeth TRITT of Greenbrier County, later in Lee County, My g Grandfather Ira, son of John and Polly, was born in Va and with family moved to Missouri in the mid 1840 time frame. John moved from Missouri on to Kansas in about 1855 and from there I find no trace of him . Johns sister, Mary Magadalena, married James Kincaid and lived in the area of Page and Kincaid VA. She is buried in a cemetery near Page W.VA. I would appreciate any information regarding these families.
HAYWOOD, HEYWOOD, DYE, KAY
Carole Mathewson May 30, 2002
I am a great-granddaughter of Mary HAYWOOD, or HEYWOOD, (middle name) (nee KAY) DYE, born 1829 (it is believed in New York State). She married William DYE, born 1817 in Marietta, Ohio. (I do not know if Mary and William DYE lived in West Virginia at any time after their marriage, as they resided in Iowa, Illinois and finally in California during their married life.)
Having seen on the Internet a KAY lineage extending back to James KAY, b. about 1775 or 1780, d. about 1860, Ripley, W.V., buried at the Chase Farm Cemetery below Ripley, there are facts that make me wonder if said James KAY might have been the grandfather of Mary (KAY) DYE. I am interested in knowing the names of all the children of said James KAY.
Mary (KAY) DYE had a brother, James M. KAY who died April 8, 1904 at the Old Soldier's Home, Sawtelle, Los Angeles County, California. He was a Civil War veteran who served with the West Virginia Cavalry, "E 5th," apparently the 5th Regiment, Company E. In addition to Mary and James M. KAY, there were at least two other siblings, Harriet and Hannah Kay. One of the sisters (either Harriet or Hannah) lived in Sistersville, W.V., however, I do not know her married name.
Are there records (probate records or local histories) indicating the descendants of James KAY who died in Ripley in 1860? And are there Civil War records concerning his probable grandson, James M. KAY? I am eager to complete a family history for distribution to my family and must first find the parentage of Mary KAY DYE. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
