David T. Franks, who came to an untimely death at the hands of his slayer in Crittenden last Saturday, April 2, 1898, was laid to rest in Mt. Zion Cemetery Monday, April 4. He was born October 18, 1852 and was married to Miss Sallie Hambrick February 20, 1873. He leaves 8 children, 6 girls and 2 boys, almost in a helpless condition. Early in life he united with the Baptist Church at Elk Lick in Owen County, but unfortunately for him, as well as many others, he had wandered away from its heavenly tenets. There was no kinder hearted man living than David T. Franks. Approach him even in the seemingly most untimely seasons of his life and kindly refer to that weakness which was all the worse from him and he would weep like a wounded child and confess its destructive influence and express an earnest desire for freedom from its grasp. No one would go for a friend. No one would more bravely meet a foe. But his sun has set while it was yet day. He had just reached life's meridian when the darkness of death gathered about him. Short funeral services were conducted by the writer in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in the presence of a large congregation; many of whom had known him from boyhood and many were the tears that welled up from sympathetic hearts over his sudden and unfortunate demise. May the Lord in loving mercy bless his heart-broken companion and poor little fatherless children.
