The above stone for Jacob Franks and Mary Ashley was placed in the "Old" cemetery behind Mt. Zion Baptist Church during the mid to late 1980s by Mr. Lloyd Wayne Franks who passed away March 15, 1991. The History of Grant County, Kentucky, John B. Conrad, Editor, Published by The Grant County Historical Society, Inc., Williamstown, Kentucky, 1992, contains a chapter on the community of Mt. Zion written by Mr. Lloyd Franks, and in this chapter, page 368, he writes that Jacob Franks was the father of John Martin Franks. For some of us however, research has failed to produce a record stating Jacob was the father of John Martin Franks, and research has also failed to produce a document showing that Jacob Franks and Mary Ashley were ever in this area.
