Reuben C. Bennett
Reuben C. Bennett was born 1790 and died July 28, 1866 in Grant County, Kentucky. He married Mary "Polly" Hamilton, October 17, 1817 in Brooksville, Bracken County, Kentucky, daughter of John Hamilton Jr. and Deborah Perkins. She was born March 6, 1798 in Bracken County and died February 20, 1877 in Grant County, Kentucky. Records show that Polly had been a member of Ten Mile Baptist Church for nearly 50 years. Reuben enlisted in the War of 1812 in Cynthiana, Harrison County, Kentucky, served under Captain G. M. Bower's Company of the 1st Regiment Kentucky Mounted Volunteer Militia on the expedition to Upper Canada, and was honorably discharged November 2, 1813. In 1817, Reuben and Polly moved to the area of Pendleton County that would become Grant County in 1820. In 1818, 1819, and 1820, he is listed with 150 acres on Eagle Creek. Reuben's will, dated March 24, 1868, is recorded in Grant County, Book F, Page 255. Their known children:

John W. Bennett, born 1818, married America Naylor, September 18, 1832 in

County, Kentucky. Alfonso T. and Sarah Angeline are buried in Vine Run Cemetery,
Grant County. Alfonso T. Bennett was serving in the Civil War and was killed
by soldiers at his parent's homeplace. He came home on a secret mission and
was seen by someone in the area and the soldiers came after him. His mother,
Mary Hamilton Bennett, had made him lay down and rest before starting out
again because he was so exhausted. However, when the soldiers rode up, one
of them called out his nickname "Lonnie". He woke immediately and went to
the door. As he opened the door he was shot by one of the soldiers and fell
dead in his mother's arms. His children were very young and possibly witnessed
his death. His parent's homeplace was set on fire and burned to the ground
that evening. His mother, Mary Hamilton Bennett, jumped on her horse and
rode to Sparta in Gallatin County, Kentucky to borrow 600 pounds of gold
from her brother, John O. Hamilton. She lived long enough to repay her brother
the loan. Alfonso's brothers, William K. "Wesley" Bennett, James D. Bennett
