John Beverly

John Beverly, oldest of twelve children of Stephen and Lucy Beverly, was born about 1804. He married Mary Sipple March 9, 1823 in Grant County, Kentucky, daughter of John Sipple. They lived the rest of their lives on their farm on Eagle Creek near Downingsville. John died September 4, 1869, but Mary lived another twenty-five years, dying January 9, 1894 at age 89. They had eleven children, all born in Grant County. Children:

1. Alamanda/Almeda Beverly was born in 1824 and died July 1851. She married Alfred Morgan September 7, 1843, son of Samuel and Elizabeth Morgan. They had four children.

2. Mary Ann Beverly was born in 1827. She married January 2, 1849, Thomas B. Thornhill, son of Reuben Thornhill. They had one son, William P.

3. Louisiana Beverly was born between 1825 and 1830. She married Woodford Childers on March 27, 1850. She married second, Elisha Stewart December 20, 1855.

4. William Hiter Beverly was born 1829. He married on February 5, 1850 Arthusa B. Abernathy, daughter of Richard Abernathy. They had four children.

5. Elizabeth Beverly born about 1832 and died before 1860, single.

6. John S. Beverly was born August 27, 1833 and died April 4, 1910. He married on December 23, 1854 Mary E. Bennett. She was born in 1837 and died in 1908. Both are buried in the IOOF Cemetery in Jonesville. They had seven children.

7. Stephen W. Beverly was born in 1836. He married on July 25, 1860, Sebra Elizabeth Gravitt, daughter of Jane Cox Gravitt McAtee. They had four children.

8. Lucy Beverly married on September 20, 1875, B. C. Crossthwait.

9. Andrew Beverly was born in 1844. He married Mary ?.

10. Bluford Hayden Beverly was born April 3, 1847 and died September 5, 1888. He married Dartha/Dorothy Ruddell, daughter of James and Anna Burgess Ruddell.

11. The eleventh child probably died young.
