Robert Brooks

Robert Brooks was born in December 1804 in Kentucky, probably the son of an older William Brooks Sr., later of Grant County, Kentucky, and perhaps his wife Meredith. Robert had a known brother, William Brooks, who came with him to Illinois and probably a second brother, John Brooks, who remained in Grant County. Robert married Rebecca, daughter of Edward Points in 1826 in Grant County, Kentucky, and they were in Schuyler County, Illinois by 1835. Robert died there January 2, 1873, aged 68 years; his wife Rebecca died August 2, 1872, aged 65 years; both are buried in West Camden Cemetery. Their children:

1. Grizella was born 1828 in Grant County, Kentucky. She married Arthur Chapman 1845 in Schuyler County, Illinois; died there 1903, buried West Camden Cemetery.

2. John Brooks born 1830 in Grant County, Kentucky; married Mary Ann Whiteman 1849 in Schuyler County, Illinois; died 1896 at Industry, McDonough County, Illinois.

3. Alexander Brooks born 1832 in Grant County, Kentucky; married 1853 in Schuyler County, Illinois to Frances Rhodes and died between 1856-1860 probably in Schuyler County.

4. Perhaps Polly Brooks who appears on an 1841 Schuyler County school list, among the other children of Robert Brooks, listed between John and James Brooks.

5. James Robert Brooks born 1834 in Grant County, Kentucky; married Mary West 1854 in Schuyler County, Illinois; died 1901 at Industry, McDonough County, Illinois.

6. Elizabeth Brooks born 1837 Schuyler County, Illinois; married first, John Cox Jr. 1854 in Schuyler County, Illinois; married second, John D. Vincent. She died 1898 at Industry, McDonough County, Illinois; buried at Littleton, Schuyler County, Illinois.

7. Mary Ellen brooks born 1839 in Schuyler County, Illinois; married James Haley 1856 in Schuyler County, Illinois. Died 1894, buried Steamboat Rock, Hardin County, Iowa.

8. Christopher Columbus Brooks born 1842 Schuyler County, Illinois; married first, Josephine Parson 1868 Schuyler County, Illinois; married second, Dolphia Meeks 1878 Schuyler County, Illinois; married third, Mary Tathum 1887 McDonough County, Illinois; married fourth, Mrs. Sarah Jane Downs 1900 McDonough County, Illinois. Christopher died 1914 Bluff Springs, Cass County, Illinois; buried at Industry, McDonough County, Illinois.

9. Nancy Emily Brooks born 1848 Schuyler County, Illinois; married 1865 Alpheus Unger. Living in 1900 in Portage County, Ohio.

10. William T. Brooks was born 1849 in Schuyler County, Illinois. Died between 1860-1870.
