Daniel Cowgill

Daniel Cowgill was born October 9, 1755 in Burlington County, New Jersey, and was a soldier of the Revolution. While a resident of Culpeper County, Virginia, he enlisted in October 1777 and served as private in Captain John Yancey's Company of Light Horse and in Colonel Crockett's Virginia Regiment, went south and was discharged in South Carolina. His length of service was one year.  He returned home where his father was in Culpeper County, Virginia. Then he enlisted in October 1779 and served as private in Captain Mark Thomas' Company, Colonel George Clark's Virginia Regiment, and in Colonel George Slaughter's Virginia Regiment; length of service two years. He was allowed pension on account of his service in the Revolutionary War on his application, Certificate #7025, executed September 21, 1832 at which time he was a resident of Preble County, Ohio. He had resided in that county about three years and in the State of Ohio for about seventeen years.

Daniel Cowgill left a will in Grant County, Kentucky, signed August 28, 1842. He stated in his will: I have given my first wife's children as much as I intend them to have of my estate, to wit, Joseph Cowgill, Martin Cowgill, Nancy Cowgill, my children. I will to my second wife's children, I will and order it should be sold by my executors and the proceeds equally divided among the said children, after the said executors are paid for their troubles and expenses, if any, to wit, my daughter, Elizabeth, Sarah Hannah, George, and Frankey, my children, and the heirs of Mary, my daughter. During Grant County Court, July 10, 1843, Daniel Cowgill's last will and testament was ordered to be recorded and was so recorded by William Smith, Clerk of Grant County Court.
