Jeremiah Crook was born in 1761 or 1764 in Fairfax County, Virginia, "near the residence of General Washington. Parents names are not given. He moved to Kentucky about 1790 and lived in Bourbon and Pendleton Counties. On May 27, 1834, he stated he was 73 years of age, a resident of Grant County, Kentucky (on the Dry Ridge).
While residing in Prince William County, Virginia, he enlisted and served with the Virginia troops as follows: about three years before the surrender of Cornwallis, three months in Captain Peter Evans' Company, about one year later, three months in Captain John Brit's Company, about February 1782 marched in Captain Daniel Moore's Company in Colonel James Smith's regiment to Williamsburg, Virginia, and was there attached to French Troops and was a wagoner, length of service ten months. He was allowed pension on his application executed February 11, 1833, then a resident of Grant County, Kentucky.
He married October 7, 1782 in Charles County, Maryland, Jane Williams. The soldier, Jeremiah Crook, died June 14, 1834 in Grant County, Kentucky. His widow, Jane was allowed pension on her application executed September 28, 1846, at which time she was living in Lewis County, Missouri, and was 82 years of age. It is stated that they reared a large family of children, only name given being Elizabeth, their fourth child. She was born about 1792 and married Jesse Woodyard in 1810. In 1848 Jesse Woodyard was living in Lewis County, Missouri.
On February 28, 1848, the widow, Jane, was referred to as deceased (no definite date given). She left children, their names are not shown.
