Thomas Hawkins, a resident of Grant County, Kentucky, 1820 to about 1823, was born October 11, 1771 in Milford, Connecticut, a son of Zadock Hawkins, a veteran of the American Revolution and Lydia Wilmot Hawkins. Thomas Hawkins, along with two brothers, Zadock and Eleazer, settled in Nelson County, Kentucky in the mid-1790s. It is possible that here Thomas first met Sarah McMillan daughter of Robert McMillan, whom he later married in Pendleton County, Kentucky, September 12, 1800. There is some evidence that the mother of Thomas and his brothers, Lydia, accompanied them to Kentucky. Thomas and Zadock, along with the McMillans, chose Pendleton County for their home and Eleazer moved to Henry County. Thomas Hawkins died in Pendleton County in 1834. The children of Thomas and Sarah were:
1. Thomas, married October 2, 1829, Abigail Jane Race, daughter of Moses Race.
2. Zadock/Zeradeh, married October 7, 137, Jane Race, daughter of Moses and Mary Tomlin Race.
3. Lydia, married June 25, 1837, Wiley Webster.
4. Isaac.
5. Phoebe, born 1806, married January 22, 1824, Lawrence Race, born 1803, son of Moses and Mary Tomlin Race.
6. Sarah Jane, born 1808, married June 1, 1825, Robert McMillian, born 1808 Brown County, Ohio, son of James and Martha Cooper McMillian; and
7. Jane W., born 1812, married January 31, 1827, Jeremiah Tomlin, son of Christian and Lucinda Wright Tomlin.
