Jacobs Family
Bible
Submitted by Mary Ann Mullins
Jacobs. (She
passed
away August 29, 2002.)
This information is
contained in the family Bible of Moses Jacobs. This Bible was in the possession
of a gentleman who purchased a chest at an estate sale that contained the
Bible. (At the time the Bible Record was submitted in November 2001, the
Bible was in the possession of Michael and Mary Ann
Jacobs).
"Family
tradition says that my great-great-grandfather, Joseph J. Jacobs came over
from Wales and settled in Fairfax County, Virginia, but I would rather think
that it was his father, Joseph Jacobs Sr.,who came from Wales and married
Ann Chaney and settled in
Anne Aundel County on
the South River about 1600.
John Jacobs Sr. and Anney Chaney, 1660.
"John
R., Richard, Samuel, Elizabeth and Susannah,
and
(Joseph), inherited
land in Prince George County just
across the Potomac River
from Fairfax County, and
married Elizabeth, widow
of Wm. Jones, at
All Hallow-
Episcopalian Church in Ann Arundel County,
Maryland, October 1,
1706."
The number of children are not known except Joseph Jr. and I think Wm. Jacobs and probably Rowley Jacobs were both Revolutionary soldiers.
Children
of Joseph Jacobs Jr. and wife,
Elizabeth:
William
Jacobs
Moses
Jacobs
Mary Clark
Jacobs
Aley Aldridge Jacobs
and
Jane
Jacobs.
The
following was also in the Bible, "This is an exact
copy."
I do hereby certify
that Jose Jacobs hath taken and subscribed the oath or Affirmation of Allegiance
and Fidelity, as directed by an Act of General Assembly instituted an act
to oblige the free male inhabitants of this above a certain age to give assurance
of allegiance to the same, and for other purposes. Witnessed my hand and
seal this 9th day of August 1777. Signed by: Thos.
Pollard"
This information is taken from the family Bible of Milton "Moses" Jacobs that was also in the chest purchased by Mr. Chinn, and in the possession of Michael and Mary Ann Jacobs in November 2001.
Moses Jacobs came to Kentucky between 1815 and 1818, married Polly B. Daniels, daughter of Charles Dans, son or grandson of Walker Daniels, who helped to establish the first school west of the Alleghenies, known as Transylvania University, settled in Boon County or Grant County, where his marriage is probably recorded, as well as a deed to his daughter Polly B. Jacobs and Moses Jacobs from Charles Daniels.
Taken from Grandfather's Bible now in the possession of my half-brother, Joseph Keene Jacobs, Louisville, Ky.
