Menefee Family

Jarrett Menefee was born 1751 in Virginia and died 1835 in Fayette County, Kentucky. He married Sarah Price, daughter of Abraham Price. Their known child, Benjamin Price Menefee, was born September 23, 1788 and died September 16, 1873. He married Elizabeth Cox, who was born December 11, 1801 and died August 21, 1871. They are buried in the Menefee Family Graveyard in Grant County, Kentucky. They were the parents of the following children.

1. Matthias M. Menefee was born February 1, 1823 in Campbell County, Kentucky and died December 30, 1899 in Grant County Kentucky. He married Nancy Bates February 5, 1845 (bond date) in Grant County, Kentucky, daughter of James Bates and Susannah Wert/Wirt.  The bride was proven to be of lawful age by the oath of E. L. Brown. She was born October 5, 1823 and died October 22, 1896 in Grant County, Kentucky. Matthias and Nancy are buried in Gardnersville Cemetery in Pendleton County, Kentucky. They were the parents of the following children: (a) Sarah, (b) Presley, (c) William C., (d) Benjamin, (e) Emma was born April 21, 1861 in Grant County, Kentucky and died in Grant County, July 1, 1933. She married George Washington Fling on May 14, 1876 in Grant County, Kentucky, son of Minor Fling and Ellen Work. He was born December 13, 1854 in Grant County and died February 21, 1932. They are buried in Gardnersville Cemetery in Pendleton County, Kentucky, (f) Philemon, and (g) Nannie Menefee.

2. Strother C. Menefee was born about 1828 in Kentucky and  married Missouri Vallandingham on December 21, 1852 in Grant County, Kentucky.

3. James Menefee was born about 1831.

4. Elizabeth Menefee was born about 1836.

5. Benjamin Menefee was born about 1838

6. George W. Menefee was born about 1839.
