John Mitts

John Mitts, the younger brother of Adam Mitts, was born March 3, 1792 in Hampshire County, Virginia, and came to Kentucky as a small boy with his parents. In Pendleton County on March 26, 1812, he married Sarah/Sally Conyers, a younger sister of his brother Jacob's wife. The couple settled on 170 acres on the waters of Ten Mile and Eagle Creeks. On this Grant County farm eight sons were born. Then in the fall of 1833 they sold thier entire farm for $600 to William Conrad. Migrating to Illinois, they took up residence in Richfield Township in Adams County. One more son was born. John and Sarah Mitts spent their remaining days in farming. Sarah died April 7, 1873, age 80, and John Mitts died November 18, 1876, age 84.
