It's a bird, it's a plane......no......it's Santa Claus. And it was, an airborne jolly St. Nick arriving in Boca Raton, Florida by helicopter to the waving and yelling of the youngsters in 1968. Santa was escorted to the Community Center where he stationed himself at his seat and for hours shook hands, seated kids on his lap and promised the children he would be back on Christmas Eve with a sled full of presents. Santa and some generous people of the town worked hard to make the needy children's dreams come true and they did! One can only imagine the smiles on their little faces and the joy in their hearts when they woke up Christmas morn to find Santa left gifts under their trees.
Santa, David T. Franks, formerly of Grant County, died September 5, 2000 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He is buried in Mt. Zion Public Cemetery in Grant County, Kentucky.
