Reuben
Thornhill
Janet Pease's "Abstracts" indicate that Reuben Thornhill was in Harrison County, Kentucky as early as 1810, four years after a John Thornhill, relationship unknown, appears there. These two men then appear in Pendleton County in 1816 and 1818 and in Grant from at least 1823. On August 8, 1843 Reuben wrote his will, signed by mark, and witnessed by Samuel Gossett and Jacob Mussleman. It was proved October 19 the same year. Wife Sarah and Christopher Mussleman were named executors. His three sons and six daughters are listed below as named, with some additional information, where known. Sarah may have been a second wife, and which, if any, of the children are hers is not know Birth dates are also unknown.
1.
Susannah married James Coleman on April 25, 1826 in Grant County; one known
son, Jesse.
2.
Lucy/Lucinda married Thos. C. Childers on March 3, 1833 in Grant County;
two known children, Elizabeth and
William.
3.
James Wesley.
4.
Thomas B., born ca 1872, married in Grant County on January 2, 1849, Mary
Ann Beverly, daughter of John and Mary Sipple Beverly, died circa January
1867; one child, Wm. P. Thornhill, born circa
1850.
5.
Reuben C.
6.
Nancy. She is named as Nancy Thornhill in her father's will but is Nancy
Salley in sister Mary's will of 1862. Apparently she married Benjamin Sallee
as his second wife, but no record has been found in Grant
County.
7.
Sally may have died before 1862 as she is not named in Mary's
will.
8.
Polly/Mary apparently never married. Her will was written April 1, 1862,
proved in May 1874, executor was W. W. Sallee, son of Benjamin; (her stepson?).
She names three sisters, Nancy Sallee, Susan Coleman, and Lucy Childers,
and four nieces and nephews, W. W. Sallee, James Coleman, and Elizabeth and
William Childers.
9.
Sarah Josephine.

Correction
by Mrs. Loomis:
In the article on Reuben Thornhill published in the June 25, 1998 issue of
"Footsteps of the Past," under child 8, Mary/Polly, I have written "...W.
W. Sallee (son of Benjamin; her stepson?) "when it is very clear that it
is child 6, Nancy, who married Benjamin Sallee. Perhaps the simplest
way to correct this is to say that W. W. Sallee is the possible stepson of
Nancy and a step-nephew to
Polly/Mary.
