Vaughn
James Vaughn and wife, Sarah, are first found in Caroline County, Virginia, where he enlisted in the Army during the Revolutionary War. He moved to Orange County, Virginia about 1790, then to Fayette County, Kentucky about 1805, where he died in 1837. They were the parents of eight children of whom five, or their descendants, moved to Grant County, Kentucky. They were:
1. Nancy Vaughn married Bailey Beach in Orange County in 1793. They moved to Fayette County, Kentucky, then to Grant County, Kentucky and were the parents of nine children.
2. Joseph Vaughn married in 1798 Nancy Turnery in Orange County where they were living when his father died.
3. Betsy Vaughn married George Boston. They had one daughter, Sally, who married James Savor.
4. Cornelius Vaughn was born in 1787 and married Frances Webster in 1806 in Fayette County. They stayed in that area.
5. Mary Vaughn married Dudley Webster in 1808 in Fayette County. They had four children, with some of the descendants settling in Pendleton and Grant Counties.
6. Judith Vaughn was born in 1792 and married James Webster in 1806 in Fayette County. They moved to Grant County where they had nineteen children.
7. Griffin Vaughn was born in 1793 and married Sarah Lloyd in 1816 in Fayette County and secondly Sarah Lee in Grant County. He was the father of seven children: George W., John J., Griffin Jr., Sarah, Nancy, Mary, and Cornelius. Most of the Vaughn families in Grant County today are descendants of Griffin.
8. Sarah Elizabeth Vaughn married Martin Webster in 1810 and moved to Grant County. They had at least five children.
