Captain Jack Wilson

According to family legend, Captain Jack Wilson lived in Virginia in colonial days and served in the American Revolution under Francis Marion but following the war, his family was carried away by the Indians and all massacres except for a two-year-old son who was kept and reared by the Indians. Some years later, this child now known as "Indian Jack" was reunited with his father.

Elements of this story must have truth because "Indian Jack" is mentioned in Grant County's probate and tax records. It is not known if Indian Jack's father came to Kentucky, but beginning in 1812, John Wilson Sr. and John Wilson Jr. begin to appear in Pendleton County's Tax records. No marriage records have been found for Indian Jack, but based on his probate records, he left four sons called jamison Jump, Sandiford Points, Bradford Points, and Alfred Points. All four of these sons went by the surname Wilson later in life.

The mother of Jamison Jump is believed to be Rachel Jump, likely the wife of Robert Wilson both of whom are buried in Hancock County, Illinois. Abby Points, daughter of John Points of Boone County, Kentucky, was the mother of the three Points boys. She later married, as Abigail Points, John McCune in Illinois in 1836.

Indian Jack died after February 10, 1829 when he wrote his will. His probable children:

1. Jamison Jump/Wilson born November 29, 1809 in Pendleton County, (now Grant) County, Kentucky. He married Ellen F. Thornhill on April 2, 1833 in Grant County, Kentucky and removed to Schuyler County, Illinois by 1835 where he died in 1899.

2. San(d)ford Points/Wilson born circa 1811 in Pendleton (now Grant) County, Kentucky. He married Mary/Polly Jump, daughter of William Jump on June 24, 1833 (bond) in Grant County, Kentucky and removed to Camden County, Missouri where he died in 1857.

3. Alfred Points/Wilson was born November 8, 1816 in Pendleton (now Grant) County, Kentucky and removed as a young man to Schuyler County, Illinois by 1836. He was married there in 1838 to Cynthia Ann Thornhill also originally from Grant County. Alfred died in 1892 in Schuyler County.

4. Bradford Points/Wilson was born circa 1819 in Pendleton (now Grant) County, Kentucky and also came to Schuyler County, Illinois by 1835 with his mother Abby Points. Bradford was married there in 1842 to America Brown, another Grant County native. Bradford died in 1904 in Adams County, Illinois.
