Jesse
Wilson
Jesse Wilson was three years old in 1795 when his parents, Ephraim and Catherine Wilson, left Washington County, Pennsylvania. With their family of ten, they crossed the mountains into Kentucky and settled in Bourbon County, Kentucky. When young Jesse became of age he moved northward and settled near Lawrenceville. There on July 30, 1815, he married Nancy Doty, a native of the area. When Jesse's parents moved to Ripley County, Indiana, Jesse, his wife, and three daughters joined them. The family remained in Indiana for a year and then returned to Kentucky. He spent his remaining years farming in Boone, Grant and Owen Counties in Kentucky. He died of cholera April 30, 1866, at the age of 73 and lies buried in the family Cemetery on the Lawrenceville farm once owned by his son. Following his death, his widow made her home with on of their younger daughters in Owen County. The Wilson family was a large one composed of 11 children.
The four elder children were long time time residents of Grant County, Kentucky. They were Catherine, the wife of Thomas Redman, Sarah the wife of John Mitts, Elizabeth the wife of James Hogan, a grandson of William Arnold, and James H. Wilson who married Harriett Simpson, a daughter of Anderson Simpson of Lawrenceville.
