Permission granted by: Rob Dump, Editor, Cedar County News ====================================================================== January 1919 Hartington Herald A Beloved Girl dies Miss Gertrude Constable Received Final Summons Last Thursday Night The Community was shocked last Thursday evening when it became known that Miss Gertrude Constable, 10 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.H. Constable, residing about nine miles west of town had passed away suddenly that morning after being ill only a few hours. She had been enjoying her usual health when she retired on Wednesday evening but when she was awakened Thursday morning complained that she was unable to stand. A physician was summoned but she passed away before he arrived. Miss Gertrude was born in Irwin, Iowa and accompanied her parents to Cedar county 11 years ago growing to young womanhood in this section. She was possessed of a happy disposition and attractive personality and was always the center of a wide circle of young people among whom she was deservedly popular. Her sudden death was a sad shock tO the entire community. Death was due to cerebral embolism. Surviving are her grandmother, Mrs. H.J. Graves, her parents and four brothers, LeRoy, Jay, John, and Dwight, and four sisters, Josie, Agatha, Iona and Agnett. The funeral was held at the family home, Sunday afternoon. Rev. S.A. Willard officiated. Interment was made in the Hartington cemeterY.
