Permission granted by: Rob Dump, Editor, Cedar County News ====================================================================== August 9, 1923 Cedar County News Resident of the County for 40 Years Dies Mrs. Chas Provancha, who has been a resident of Hartington since 1884 passed away at her home here last Saturday morning at the age of 66 years. Mary Nephew was born at Kankakee, Ill. On May 8, 1857, and came to Nebraska in 1872. She was married to Chas. Provancha at Hubbard on January 6, 1873, and they made their home there for a number of years. They moved from Hubbard to Kansas and Texas, returning to Nebraska in 1881, and coming to Hartington in 1884. Eleven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Provancha, but only three of them are living. They are Mrs. Barney Winterringer and Walter Provancha, of Sioux City, and Merrick Provancha of Hartington. She is also survived by her husband and a sister, Mrs. Henry Spooner of Alta, Iowa. The sister and the children were here for the funeral. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Congregational church, with Rev. Jersing Thompson in charge. Interment was in the Hartington Cemetery. Out of town relatives who were here for the funeral were Mrs. Brown and son, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Turton, Arthur Winterringer, and Mr. and Mrs. Budrow, all of Sioux City, and Mr. and Mrs. Gigear of Emerson.
