Mrs. Sieverson, who was the mother of Mrs. C.A. Lukken of Hartington, celebrated her 99th birthday last Dec. 26th, and she expressed the hope that she would live to observe her 100th birthday. She has been in failing health for some time, however, and her candle of life slowly flickered out, the end coming at four 0’clock Wednesday morning. The date of Mrs. Sieverson’s birth was Dec. 26, 1824 and she was born at Bergan, Norway, her parents being named Lee. About 1840 she came to America, settling first in Wisconsin, where she marred Andrew Sieverson, in 1872 she moved to South Dakota, her husband having died several years previous of that time. She has been a resident of Cedar county for the past 20 years. Mrs. Sieverson has lived on many of the American frontiers, and was well acquainted with the hardships of the pioneer. Her life in addition to being of unusual health, was also one of unusual service. She was a member of the Lutheran church during her lifetime. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Lukken of Hartington; Mrs. C.D. Taylor of Grand Rapids Minnesota, Mrs. O.N. Junker, of Meckling, SD., and Mrs. Andrew Dahlin of Stockton, California. Two sisters, Mrs. Burgess of Vermillion, SD., and Mrs. Sieverson, of Mapleton, Minn., and a brother Andrew Lee, of Vermillion, former governor of South Dakota also survive her. Funeral services are to be held from the home Friday afternoon at two O’clock and will be conducted by Rev. Harang, pastor of the Maskell Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the Obert cemetery.
