Salter, John W. (1847? - 15 NOV 1927)
John W. Salter of the village of Unity, Wis., one of the leading citizens of Marathon Co., passed away Tuesday morning, Nov. 15, 1927, aged about 80 years. Mr. Salter had been infailing health for some time.
John Salter was a pioneer businessman of Unity and had a successful career in the mercantile business there, becoming a man of wealth.
He engaged quite extensively in farming, having many fine cattle and sheep. He was a graduate of the State University and was at one time on the Board of Regents. He also served several terms as member of the assembly. Mr. Salter was Grand Treasurer of the Odd Fellow Encampment and was Past Grand Patriarch. For many years past he was president of Unity State Bank. He leaves four daughters and two sons.
