I found this postcard - Dist. School #4, Town of York, Clark Co., Wis. None of the people are identified.
Dated July 1, 1908 From Minnie Grobe to her father Herman Grobe. We will be arriving Friday on the 2 o'clock train in Chili.
Webmaster's Note: We believe this school May have been in what is now Fremont Township, Clark Co., WI, but on its face it does say "York Township". If you can clarify the exact location, or identify any of the people in the photo, please contact us.
Notes:
1. This looks like the old Romadka School in section 12 of York Township to me, but I could be wrong.
Lucky Steve
2. I think the location of the school would be on the North East corner of Romaka and County Hwy. H.
I think it burned in the 1950's, but I will check on that date to be sure.
Virginia Elmhorst
3. The school is definitely Romadka School (District 4) in the Town of York. The photo wasn't quite clear enough to positively identify any of the children but if it was taken in 1908, one of the small girls is probably my grandmother, Elizabeth (Johnson) Lavey. She would have been about eight or nine at the time. To the best of my knowledge, I don't believe Fremont Township was ever part of York Township.
