Huckstead, Thomas F. (24 Sep 1893 - 6 Nov 1918)
Mr. and Mrs. Arlo Huckstead on Saturday received a government telegram giving the sad news that their son, Private Thomas F. Huckstead, had died in England Nov. 6, 1918. He had been sick with pneumonia, but a letter from him dated Oct. 19 stated that he was able to be up and that he was feeling fine. Since then no word has been received until the telegram came. Tom, as all his acquaintances called him, was born Sept. 24, 1893 in the town of Grant, Clark County, Wis. and spent practically all his life there on the home farm. He was a young man of sterling character, strong and vigorous physically, full of life and energy; he pushed the work on the farm which for sometime before going into the army, had been in his charge. Few young men of his age were his equal in handling the details of the farm. His death is an irreparable loss to his home in which he was the only son, and it is a real loss to this community. He leaves his father and mother and four sisters: Ina, Mary, Elsie and Doris to mourn his early death.
