Sitts, Henry
The Henry Sitts family had come from New York to Iron Ridge in Dodge County, Wis., where they settled in 1847. Then they came on to Loyal, Clark County, Wis. with three other families (Abram Smith, William Hill, William Welsh). Abram Smith was his brother-in-law and they worked out together to earn enough to buy their first cow. Also all four men and their wives had to work together to burn off the timber in order to have farmland. Sometimes it meant watching late at night to keep the blaze under control. They were not lumbermen nor was there a sawmill nearby.
