Jacob Adams Middlekauf was born in Boonsboro, Maryland, 15 Apr. 1855, the son of Jacob Simon and Ann Cecelia Adams. He married Anne Alcinda "Cecelia" Mees (1863-1947) , who was born in the great Hawkeye state to parents who were both Pennsylvania natives. They were the parents of Jacob Elwood (1888-?), John Mills Middlekauf (1892-1978) who married Mathilda B.; Henry (1896-?); Mabel (1898-?) and Ruth (1901-1914). Jacob was a commercial traveler who dealt with heavy hardware. Besides Eau Claire, he also resided in Linn, Iowa and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He died 3 Aug 1933 in Ogle, Illinois and was buried there in the Mount Morris Cemetery. He was a brother to Jacob Adams, Mary Alice, Frederick A., Nettie Belle and Simon Fenton Middlekauf.
At the age of sixty-two, Jacob A. Middlekauf was a client at the Greenwood, Wisconsin Central Hotel August 10, 1917. The ledger for that business shows not only bears his signature, and indicates he stayed in room #5, ordered lunch and had a bill that tallied $7.00. $7 in 1917 is worth $142.34 today (2020).
