Blood, Wilbur H. (? - 30 May 1971)

Funeral services for Wilbur H. Blood, 55, of Wisconsin Rapids, who died there May 30, were held Thursday, June 3, at 10 a.m. from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville. The Rev. Charles D. Brady officiated and burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Joe Wirkuty, Leland Wirkuty, Alvin Wirkuty, Daniel Rayburn, Emerson Nigh, and William Rich.

Those from out of town who attended the services included: Edward Kanieski, Henry Blood, Mr. and Mrs. William Rich, Mrs. George Nielsen, Jr., Mrs. Vivian Kroll, and Gene Kroll, all of Wisconsin Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Nigh, Hancock; Mrs. George Nielsen, Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Rayburn, Pittsville; Mrs. Mildred Kanieski, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Wirkuty and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wirkuty, Waukesha; Mr. and Mrs. Leland Wirkuty and son of Racine.

1909 Postcard mentions Charles Blood

1910 Postcard from Charles Blood of Withee to his brother Frank Blood of Stevens Point, Wis.

 

 

Charles Edward Blood (1882–1943) was the son of Franklin Alonzo "Frank" Blood & Mary O'Hare (1844-1899) who married in Portage, WI in 1869.  Charles was one of their six children.  Their oldest son was Franklin John Blood (1870-1950).  Their two daughters, Harriet Blood (1874–1953) & Caroline M Blood (1877–1962) then joined the family followed by two more boys, George Henry Blood (1879–1949) and their youngest son, Charles Edward Blood (1882-1943).  Grace T Blood (1883–1961) was the baby of the family.

 

When the 1910 Census was recorded, Charles was tending bar in Withee, Wisconsin and living in a hotel managed by Lucinda Moody.  He enjoyed playing on the local baseball team.

 

By 1920, he had moved on to Kenmare City, North Dakota and was married to Louise Marie Mahnke (1884-1965) and had two step-sons, Lawrence W. Rogar Bogar (1903) & Clyde L. Bogar (1905).   She was born in Meeker, MN, 17 May 1884.  They lived on First Ave. East, not far from the St. Agnes Academy.  Charles was the proprietor of a laundry where his wife and both sons also worked.  Their son, Clarence Robert Bogar (1907) was also living with them.

In 1930, he was living on 2nd Ave. East and working as an instructor at the CC camp.  His wife, Lizzie, was a clerk in a retail store.

 

Charles died 22 Sep 1943

 

*Louise's first husband was Albert Jackson "Bert" Bogar (1874-1959). Louise died 29 Nov 1965.  They are both buried in the Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare, ND.
