Heathville (22 December 1911)

If God would answer our prayer and give us vigor to live on without canes or crutches, Sherman Davis and Fred Dankemyer could have our place in heaven as long as this world stands.  This sentiment is nothing boasting however.  A better state, a better county, a better neighborhood isn’t in existence, as the one we are located in.  People are getting better, including the weather man, with the exception of Fred Carpenter and he was never better than he is right now.  George Leye is improving and Otto Kempin is still holding his own. Wellie Davis has a rope around his neck so he can‘t get away.  You take it all around; Heathville is a good place to live.  Here is where the girls are pretty, the babies are fat, the women attend to their business, and the bed bug gets there just the same.

The average news gatherer for a country paper is generally quite well paid.  Usually his is furnished with paper, envelopes and occasionally the printer will throw in a few stamps free of charge.  That is the average salary of a country correspondent. However we will not go any further with the above subject. It causes the average writer lots of trembling for fear of getting horse whipped the next day. It causes him to have the nightmare and it makes him dream of the cigars the Editor so kindly contributes toward the above mentioned salary.  There is usually a prize for catching a greased pig or covering a pole cat, but not for this work, unless the Editor has the proper thought when you meet him on the street near Bill Storm’s.

If anybody is tickled, it’s Delbert Latamore.  We don’t mean to say that he is ticklish, that part of the machinery awaits developments, and as years go by, will pass off on him.  However he can look with one eye as well as the next one. What that is for; that is out of our jurisdiction and will not try to determine.  He is glad he is back; we ought to say home, as he belongs to our community.  Upon his arrival a few weeks ago he received a hearty hand shake from all of the old neighbors. In a course of a week he will again open up a blacksmith and repair shop and if you happen up this way at any time and you see old machinery from a grind organ to a threshing machine lying along the road, remember within its limits there lives a man that will do your work right and just.

Reports have it that the Heathville cheese factory is sold to a man near Greenwood.  Consideration $4,000

Frank Davis sold his farm to a party near Appleton.  He will move onto his father’s farm near Granton.
