OBITUARY MRS. G. W. BISHOP (1860-1928)

Ella A. Allds was born in the Town of Orange, Juneau Co., Wis., on the 19th day of Nov., 1860, the daughter of Isaac and Rebecca Allds. There she grew to womanhood and at an early age united with the Presbyterian Church and while her membership was never transferred, she has always identified herself with the activities of that church.

She was married at the home of her father and mother on the 22nd day of Feb., 1881, to Geo. W. Bishop in the presence of a large circle of relatives and friends, who gathered there to witness the ceremony. One daughter, Mabel, was born to this union, who came home from Milwaukee on Saturday, Jan. 21st to be with her mother until the end.

Mrs. Bishop had not been well for two years and has been in very frail health the entire year just past, but for nearly 35 years she was active in the social life of this little city. She was known by practically everybody in this section, for during her earlier years, in conjunction with her home duties, she helped her husband conduct the furniture and undertaking business, which has served this community since 1892. She was a faithful, loving and considerate wife and mother, and with an amiable, cheerful disposition, she has always stood for high moral standards and has generously given of herself and her means for others.

She was a member of Greenwood Chapter No. 137 Order of the Eastern Star, also of the Greenwood Lodge Daughters of Rebekah and has held the chair of presiding officer in both of these organizations. She was also a member of the Beavers Reserve Fund Fraternity. The peculiar sense of humor which she revealed will long be remembered by those who knew her.

The great number of friends who called to pay their last respects, the beautiful flowers, the many friends and relatives who came long distances and from many directions to attend the funeral are sweet testimonials to the love and esteem in which she was held.

Her father, mother and older sister preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband and daughter Mabel, two sisters, Mrs. Anna Edison of Hillsboro, Wis., Mrs. A. J. Wilson of Rhinelander, Wis., and two brother, Mr. George Allds of Wausau, Wis., and Mr. Frank Allds of Camp Douglas, Wis., all of whom were present at the funeral.

She passed to the great beyond like the slow pouring of water from a pitcher at 7:05 P.M., Jan. 27th, 1928. Thus she had attained the age of 67 years, 2 months and 8 days. The funeral services were held at the home at 2:30 P.M. Thursday, Feb. 2nd, Rev. Householder of the local M.E. Church officiating. She was laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery. Mrs. Allard and Mrs. Mayhew singing One Sweetly Solemn Thought as the flower laden casket was gently lowered to its final resting place. The Pall Bearers were W. H. Rossman, H.F. Stabnow, C. A. L. Varney, Wm. Vold, J. W. Christie and Clarence Green.
