William Harris Shapely
PHEBE JONSON, daughter of Emanuel Johnson and Martha Fowler, was born in New York in 1821. She married William Shapely, born July 12, 1810 Devonshire, England William and Phebe had two daughters born to them: Almira, and Minnah. Almira married a Boyer and had four sons; Minnah married Warren Skeesuck and had three daughters, all of whom died as infants; Ruth, daughter of Phebe married Simon Shelley, son of Simon and Sabrina, and had five sons, one who died as an infant and a daughter who died as a infant.
William Shapely, at age 51, became a teamster for Co. I 5th Wisconsin Infantry during the Civil War. Later, after the Civil War, William and Phebe came north to Unity, Wisconsin, where they spent their final days. He died on March 21, 1893 and she on September 7, 1903. William and Phebe Jonson Shapely are both buried at the Unity Township Cemetery, as is her daughter Ruth, Almira, Almira's husband, Almira's sons, and Minnah's infant daughters

On the New York roll of 1841 Phebe is listed as one of the Brothertown tribal members who is already in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The following
Shelley's are listed as being some of the tribal members who still wish to emigrate to Wisconsin: Simeon, David, John, Lyman, Louisa J., Henry F.,
Thomas E., Betsey, Simeon, Elizabeth, and Hannah Shelley. On the Wisconsin tribal roll of 1842 most are listed as being issued land patents on the
Brothertown reserve.

. He married RUTH JOHNSON 30 Jun 1865 in Brothertown, Calumet Co., WI14, daughter of UNKNOWN and PHEBE JOHNSON. She was born 1844, and died 21 Apr 1882 in Unity, Clark Co., WI. She is buried
at Unity Twnsp. Cemetery, Unity, WI.

"SIMON SHELLEY, son of Simeon and Sabrina Shelley, was born on April 4,
1841 at Brothertown, Wisconsin. He was only 21 when he enlisted in Company
E, 21st Wisconsin Infantry. In May of 1864 he was severely wounded in the lower
jaw and shoulder. Simon also saw action in the battles of Chaplin Hills,
Stone River, Hoovers Gap, Dug Gap, Chickamauga, Chatannoga, Resaca, and
finally, Dallas. As his obituary stated in the OSHKOSH NORTHWESTERN, he was
"wounded during a charge at Pumkinvine Creek in Tennessee, while trying to get
a bead on a rebel skirmisher, who had fired upon your Captain, R.W. Weisbrod"
(later the Oshkosh Police Chief).
On June 30, 1865, Simon married Ruth Shapely, daughter of Phebe Johnson
at Brothertown, Wisconsin. Simon and Ruth had five sons:
David, Herbert, Lyman and George and Ervin , and one daughter, and Ruth who died as an
Infant Ervin also died as a young child.. Simon's wife, Ruth, died on June 24, 1882, and it is believed that
the four sons were raised by his family and relatives named Colby and Cook, Lani Bartelt believes the Colby Family might have been Freeman Colby and his wife, Mary I. Sampson (dau of Alvira Shelley
