Sunday afternoon about 5 o’clock the residents in the north part of Neillsville
discovered a bear in that part of the city roaming about in the cornfields and
woods of Fred Bruley. Excitement ran high for a time and men armed with guns,
axes and clubs surrounded the wood and drive him toward the open. It was short
at several times and was finally killed by George Rude. The bear was a large one
and weighed 275 pounds. Several others have been seen in this vicinity of the
city lately.
