Carstensen, William H. (11 February 1901 – 10 July1974)

A Town of Washburn farmer for many years, William H. Carstensen, died July 10 at his home in Neillsville at the age of 73. Funeral services were held Satruday from Zion Lutheran Church, Granton, with the Rev. James Murry officiating. Burial was in the Windfall Cemetery. The Georgas Funeral Home, Neillsville, made the arrangements.

Born February 11, 1901, at Port Washington and educated there, Mr. Carstensen was the son of Detlaff and Mamie (Wehmann) Carstensen. His marriage to the former Vera (Roehl) Lavandowska took place June 26, 1954, in Granton. After his marriage, he continued to farm until 1958; the couple moved to Neillsville in 1960. Mr. Carstensen worked for a time at Rollahome in Marshfield and later, with the Green Thumb. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are two step-daughters: Mrs. Ted (Wileen) Stiemke of Rt. 2 Neillsville, and Mrs. Erlin (Velda) Greeler of Rt. 1 Neillsville; one sister, Mrs. Vera Dilmer of McHenry, Il.; two brothers: Harry Carstensen of Neillsville, and Herbert Carstensen of Milwaukee; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers were: Norman Beilke, Allen Crockett, Edison Mathis, Jake Fitzmaurice, Ted Wallace, and Clarence Reinart. Mrs. Roger Tyler sang “What A Friend We Have in Jesus” and “Abide with Me.” Mrs. Leland Garbisch was the organist.

Mr. and Mrs. George Carstensen, Mrs. Ralph Jansen, Walter Roehl, and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Beilke and Dianne, Granton; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Roehl and family, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Roehl, and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Roehl and Bernette, Chili; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Roehl and Karl Franz, Marshfield; and Mrs. Freida Roehl, Loyal.

Many others from the Loyal, Spencer, Granton, Greenwood, and Neillsville areas also attended the services.
