Williams, Dacie L. (27 DEC 1882 – 30 SEP 1969)
Graveside rites were held Thursday afternoon at Riverside Cemetery, Clark
County, near Withee, Wisconsin, for Mrs. Dacie L. Williams, of 2926 5th Avenue,
Rock Island, who died Tuesday evening in a local nursing home. A private prayer
service was held Wednesday evening at the Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island,
with Rev. Donald R. Gibson, pastor of Broadway Presbyterian Church, Rock Island,
officiating.
Mrs. Williams was the former Dacie Lavina Myers, the daughter of Dr. James F.
and Sarah (Johnson) Myers. She was born December 27, 1882 in Chicago. Her father
was one of the founders of the society which was the forerunner of the Rock
Island County Medical Society.
When she was three months old, the family moved to Farmer City, Ill., and from
there to Saybrook, Ill. She had resided in Rock Island the past 77 years. She
was educated in public school in Saybrook and Rock Island. She attended
Augustana College, Rock Island, the University of Illinoi, the University of
Iowa, and the former Wester Illinois State Teachers College in Macomb. She was a
teacher in the Rock Island school systems for over 43 years, retiring July 15,
1949. She taught at Longfellow, the first Eugene Field School, Washington Junior
High and Central Junior High School. She was with the latter two schools for 30
years.
Mrs. William married Matthew H. Williams September 30, 1902 in Rock Island. He
died August 24, 1948.
Mrs. Williams was a member of Broadway Presbyterian Church, Rock Island; a
former member of Rock Island Women's Club and the R.I. Chapter No. 269 of O.E.S.
She was a member of many education and professional organizations.
Surviving is a daughter, Miss A. Marian Williams of Rock Island; one sister,
Mrs. Nettie E. Udden of Bentonville, Ark; four grandsons, and several nieces and
nephews. She was also preceded in death by one daughter.
Rev. H.W. Luetkehoelter officiated at the Riverside Cemetery at 3:30 p.m.
Thursday.
