Luffy, Peter (8 JUN 1896 – 25 SEP 1971)
Peter T. Luffy, 75, passed away at Veterans Hospital, Minneapolis on September
25, 1971 of heart disease and emphysema. Funeral services were held at St.
Hedwig’s Chapel on Tuesday, September 28th. Father Brockman officiated at the
ten a.m. funeral service, and burial was made in St. Bernard’s Catholic
Cemetery. Pallbearers were members of the American Legion Cecil Tormey Post No.
118.
Mr. Luffy was born June 8, 1896 in Austria, coming to the states in about 1905,
residing at Oregon, Wisconsin. He served in the Armed Services from 1917 – 1920,
and then was a machine operator on road work. He was united in marriage to Linda
Walsdorf July 4, 1928 at Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.). They operated a service
station at Necedah, Wisconsin for 12 years, then returned to construction work
as pipeline foreman with Kahn and Jackson Construction Company of Columbia,
South Carolina. His work was done throughout the states of South Carolina, North
Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. In 1962 he retired and moved to Thorp, where he
resided until his death.
Surviving are his wife, Linda, and one son, Ronald Luffy of Elloree, South
Carolina.
