Lane, Patricia (12 NOV 1948 - 23 OCT 2018)
Patricia Lane died at home, on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018, just shy of her 70th
birthday.
Patricia was born on Nov. 12, 1948 in Evanston, Ill., to Doris (Garner) Lane and
Charles E. Lane II, the youngest of three children. She grew up in Columbus,
Ohio and moved to Wisconsin in 1971. She attended Sandy Springs Friend School,
Oberlin College, Mount Senario College and University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire,
graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing in 1982.
Patricia loved nursing. She worked at Rusk County Memorial Hospital in Ladysmith
for many years, gaining experience in most aspects of hospital nursing. She
returned to graduate school and worked in a clinical setting at Planned
Parenthood of Wisconsin and the Aides Resource Center of Wisconsin. She was
especially gifted in working with the terminally ill. Together with her partner
Martha, Patricia had a small farm in the New Auburn area, where she gardened
until she couldn’t stand up. She milked a cow for years and loved the seasons.
She was an accomplished artist, working mostly in abstract design with vibrant
colors, often with breathtaking results. She was a complex person, who was
forthright in thought and action. Family and friends, who knew her well, adored
her.
Patricia became seriously ill in the 1990s, fighting the many manifestations of
tick borne illnesses — she had several. In 2012, she was diagnosed with
Parkinson’s disease and worked valiantly to overcome that disease’s many
complications.
She is survived by Martha Benewicz, her partner of 43 years, spouse of five
years, her natal family including brother, Christopher Lane (Jalisco, Mexico);
her sister-in-law, Marcia Lane (Ann Arbor, Mich.); nieces, Jenni Lane (Ann
Arbor, Mich.) and Robin Eilers (Chanhassen, Minn.) and their children. By
marriage she is survived by four sisters and brothers and eight nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and older sister, Sandy.
A celebration of Patricia’s life will take place starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday,
Nov 4 at Chippewa Moraine Ice Age Center, 13394 Highway M, New Auburn.
Chippewa Valley Cremation Services-Celebration of Life Center of Altoona is
serving the family.
