Frank Francel was born January 22, 1873 in Kota, parish of Ribnica na Dolenjskem,
to Mr. and Mrs. Matt Francel. He came to America in 1901 settling in Ely,
Min¬nesota where he worked in the iron-ore mines.
Johanna Kozar was born May 13, 1887. She was raised in Sodrazice, near Ribnica,
Jugoslavia. She came to America in 1901.
They were married in Ely, Minnesota on January 18, 1902. They resided in Ely for
about eight years. Three children were born there: Frank Jr., Hanna and Joseph.
In 1909 they came to Gorman, which is part of the Willard area. They bought
forty acres of forest land which had to be cleared before it could be farmed.
They experienced many difficult days of hard work before the land was cleared
and a farm house was built. They cut wood to sell to raise money for
necessities.
Frank Jr., Joseph and Frances are deceased. Hannah lives in Madison, Wisconsin.
Other children born in Willard are: Agnes, Evanston, Il¬linois; Mary, Chicago;
John, who operated the family farm which had grown to 120 acres, sold in 1980
and now lives in Neillsville; Theresa and Pauline, Waukegan, Illinios; Paul,
Racine, Wisconsin; Josephine, Jacksonville, Florida; Hedwig (Klinke), Greenwood,
Wisconsin.
Frank Sr. passed away March 4, 1960 at the age of 87 years.
