Nyole Bunk Creed, Unity was honored at the Ojibwa District picnic held at
Cherokee Park Monday at 6:30 p.m. Dr. Raymond Hanson, president of the district,
was M.C. Arrangements were made by Troop 682, Marshfield.
Creed, who has been associated with scouting since the 1920’s, was surprised
with a plaque award inscribed with his name and “for many long years of
outstanding service to scouting from Boy Scouts of the Ojibwa District, June, 3,
1974.” A brief history of Creed’s many years in scouting and the presentation
was made by Colby Scoutmaster Jerome Zygowicz.
Through the years Creed has received many scouting awards, including the
Soutmaster Key in 1952, Silver Beaver in 1956 (the highest award an adult
scouter can receive), Distinguished Service Rib Mountain District I 1967, and
Ojibwa District Scoutmaster of the years in 1969. He is a Vigil Honor Member of
the Order of the Arrow, and has been a council member for four years. Other
positions in scouting held by Creed include scoutmaster for 13 years, assistant
Scoutmaster, Assistant District Commissioner, Council Executive for 12 years,
and Unit Commissioner for seven years. He was also council lodge advisor for the
Order of the Arrow.
Guests present were Dick Paul, council executive, who gave a special scout
salute to Creed and his wife; Oscar Carlson, who met Creed in 1916 and said he
was known as “Mr. Boy Scout for many years”; Storme Nelson, district executive,
who allowed “Creed’s main reason for being here was to serve boys and girls in
scouting;” Bob Meissner, one of Creed’s Eagle Scouts; Joe Moynihan, district
commissioner; Bob Kohl, who presented tickets to the Country Music Show at
Marshfield; John Rice, who commended Creed for his service to scouting.
The picnic was attended by approximately 68 guests, Scouters, and families and
friends from Abbotsford, Colby, Unity, Marshfield, Wausau and Hewitt. A dish to
pass potluck picnic supper and refreshments were served.
