Allen Block Loyal, Wisconsin (Colby Store, left side) |
Allen Block Fire, 1931 Allen Building Housed Wepfer Pharmacy, Loyal Tribune, Bill Meyer Bowling Alley, Kehrberg's Store and 7 Families lived in the Building. During the 28 Mar 1931 fire, 7 Families lived in the building. 6 people perished in the fire. Matt Beavers wife was one of those fatalities. The disaster headlines appeared at the same time as the fatal crash of Knute Rockne.

The second Loyal depot was completed in November 1917, only six months after the original depot was destroyed by fire. Its 24' x 90' size made it the largest depot on the branch until it was dismantled in 1968. Photo by H. Montgomery, ca. 1920. (from the Dean T. Kedinger collection) |
