The band started work October 1, 1936. The various instruments were divided into
classes which met once a week on Thursday. The first full ensemble rehearsal was
held in November.
Every Thursday at 8:00 in the morning the band members meet for ensemble
rehearsal in the band room. The band members are really enthusiastic about the
band and many of the members are busy with solos. The points that are studied in
the band are instrumental technique and musical theory.
The first appearance of the band as a whole was made December 17, 1936 when a
Christmas Concert was given at the Opera House.
The band is going to at least one festival and perhaps a tournament this spring.
We are sure they will give a good account of themselves and fitly represent the
Greenwood High School.
A Band Parents’ Club was organized the first week in January. A great deal of
interest is shown by the parents and friends. The band parents are trying to
raise money for uniforms.
There will be two drum majors and a color guard to lead the band on parade.
Mr. Hamel is the instructor and he is a pioneer of school bands in Wisconsin He
has taught school bands since 1926 making this his eleventh year in the work.
