Garbisch Retires From Bus Driving
FFA president and senior Dani Anding Congratulates
Wally Garbisch on his remarkable 56-year career as a bus driver at the Granton
Area School District all-school assembly held March 15, as school board
president Theresa Hasz (standing) and Wally and Pat Garbisch (seated) listen.
After 56 years of dedicated service as a bus driver for the Granton Area School District, Wally Garbisch called it a career March 18.
Garbisch was surprised with an all-school assembly March 15, honoring him for his remarkable career. As a bus driver, he has been the first and last person many Granton students saw each school day for over four generations.
To honor him, the Granton choir and band performed the unique selection “Another One Drives the Bus.” FFA president and senior Dani Anding read a poem written especially for Garbisch.
School board president Theresa Hasz and Superintendent Charles Buckel presented a plaque to Garbisch in recognition of his many years of fine service. Each elementary school class created cards and posters to share with Garbisch and his wife, Pat. The entire student body and staff signed a large school bus poster.
The presentation ended with the students singing “The Wheels on the Bus” and sharing cupcakes.
“The event truly was a touching moment to honor a man for his 56 years of dedication,” Hasz said. “He has touched so many young lives in a positive way.”
The community also recognized Garbisch with a reception March 26 at the Granton Community Center.
