Raising funds for Honor Flights
Motorcycle and classic car enthusiasts will congregate Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, to raise money to fly WWII veterans to their memorial in Washington, D. C.
The Honor Flight Motorcycle and Classic Car Poker Run will leave the Sports Page, 1174 Broadway Ave. in Medford at 10:30 a.m. and travel south to the Neillsville American Legion, 6 Boon Blvd, in Neillsville at 3 p.m.
There will be an organized ride from the Neillsville American Legion to The Highground Veterans Memorial Park at 4:15 p.m. with a dinner to follow at 4:30 p.m.
The proceeds from the event will benefit Wausau-based Never Forgotten, an affiliate of the Honor Flight Network. The group periodically flies WWII vets to Washington D. C. to visit their memorials. The veterans do not pay for this activity – it is absolutely free. It costs the group about $500 per veteran.
The next scheduled Honor Flights are Sept. 17 and Oct. 19, 2011.
For more information and to set up an interview, call Neillsville American Legion Commander Clem Schultz at 715-743-3859.
