ADKINS CEMETERY
Carr Township, Clark County, Indiana

Adjacent to a railroad track, lying between two corn fields, just north of Bennettsville in Carr Township in Section 11, is what we are calling Adkins Cemetery.

My first visit to this site was on 3/4/2000, in the company of Paul and Pat Coffman, Jack and Betty Briles, Kathie and Troy Danner and Jerold Callam, following a meeting of the Clark County Cemetery Preservation Committee.

This appears to be a good-sized cemetery and, from the reports we have received, there were, a number of years ago, 10 to 18 stones here.  Today, there is only ONE stone remaining, the monument next to the flag in the picture shown above right.

This single marker provides the following information:

On one side:     Bennet ADKINS, April 16 or 10, 1878 to Mar 22 1899

On 2nd side:     Elizebeth (sic) ADKINS, Age 33 or 38 years

On 3rd side:     Viva ADKINS, age 18 years

4th side blank
All photos on this page by Jerold Callam; photos at left enhanced to highlight engraving.

The stone is actually quite white, which makes the engraving hard to discern without altering the contrast in the photo.

We have no further information available at this time.
