CHARLESTOWN CEMETERY BURIALS
Charlestown Township, Clark County, Indiana

This large, active cemetery is located on Pleasant Street in the City of Charlestown, between the downtown area and the High School. It appears meticulously maintained and is the final resting place of many pioneers and veterans of many wars as well as the site of the grave of Jonathan Jennings, the first Governor of Indiana (see monument above).

According to The Political Graveyard, a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries created and maintained by Lawrence Kestenbaum, among those buried here are:

Jonathan Jennings (1784-1834) Born in Hunterdon County, N.J. Delegate to U.S. Congress from Indiana Territory, 1809-1816; delegate to Indiana state constitutional convention, 1816; Governor of Indiana, 1816-1822; U.S. Representative from Indiana, 1822-1831 (at-large 1822-1823, 2nd District 1823-1831). Died July 26, 1834. Interment at Charlestown Cemetery. Jennings County, Ind. is named for him. (See also his congressional biography.)

Mr. Kestenbaum's website also lists:

John Carr (1793-1845) Born in Indiana. U.S. Representative from Indiana, 1831-1837, 1839-1841 (2nd District 1831-1833, 3rd District 1833-1837, 1839-1841). Interment at Old Cemetery. (See also his congressional biography.)

as being buried at the "Old Cemetery", which I believe is one and the same as Charlestown Cemetery.

I have not yet spoken with Chris Grayson to ascertain his customary charge for providing copies of burial records. However, if you write Mr. Grayson requesting information, I recommend that you include a self-addressed, stamped envelope. As an expression of appreciation for his efforts, I personally would enclose a token donation of a dollar or two for each look-up requested to be used for the maintenance of the cemetery.

It is important that you provide as much data as possible when requesting a look-up by a cemetery. Provide the ancestor's full name, maiden name (if known), date of birth, date of death, reason you believe he or she is buried at this location, etc. This will greatly improve your odds of getting the result you want and will make the records keeper's job much easier.
