ARTHUR W. LANE.


   ARTHUR W. LANE, is one of Lancaster county's solid five Republican members of the house of representatives. He was born at Parma, Ohio, December 12, 1859, and came to Nebraska from Minnesota in the year 1885. He is married and has no children, and is engaged in the practice of law in Lincoln. Mr. Lane is serving his second consecutive term as member of the Legislature, having been elected two years ago a member of the twenty-sixth session.

JOHN LICHTY.


   JOHN LICHTY, Populist member of the house of representatives from the first district, Richardson county, was born in Somerset county, Pennsylvania, April 21, 1851, moving with his parents to Carroll county, Illinois, in the year 1857, and from that state he came to Nebraska in 1870. He was married to Ann N. Ashenfelter, and they have a family of five children. His present address is Falls City, Richardson county, where he is engaged in farming. Mr. Lichty has never held any office of any importance before being elected to the twenty-seventh session of the Nebraska Legislature.

GEORGE L. LOOMIS.


   GEORGE L. LOOMIS, the Democratic representative from the fourteenth district, Dodge county, was born in New York state in 1849 and located in Fremont in 1876, where he has ever since been engaged in the practice of law. He graduated from the Albany, N. Y., Law School in May, 1875. Mr. Loomis was married in 1880 to Alice M. Hadley; they have six children. He was Grand Master of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Nebraska in 1891 and 1892. He was elected by 447 majority over his opponent in a district that gave the McKinley electors 221 majority.

ELLIOTT LOWE.


   ELLIOTT LOWE, representative from the sixty-second district, Harlan county, is a Republican, was born in England, August 17, 1858, and came to this state from Iowa in the year 1888, locating at Huntley, where he now resides. He is married and has one child, a daughter, born in 1890. Now engaged in grain, lumber, implement, furniture, and coal business, owns one thousand acres of land clear, and has twenty-five thousand dollars invested in business. Mr. Lowe has been member of the school board, town treasurer, and county supervisor.

CHARLES MARSHALL.


   CHARLES, MARSHALL is the republican representative in the lower house from Otoe county, the sixth district, and was born in Yorkshire, England, September 8, 1853, coming to Nebraska from New York in the year 1871. He is married, has two sons, resides in the town of Douglas, and is a bank cashier; is also a member of the Otoe county bar. Mr. Marshall has never before held public office, except that of village trustee.

JOHN J. McCARTHY.


   JOHN J. McCARTHY, Republican, from Dixon county, the eighteenth representative district, was born in Dane county, Wisconsin, July 19, 1857, and came to this state in May, 1879; taught school in Butler county and located in Dixon county in 1882. He was married to Nellie McGowan, of Seward county, in June, 1884. They have a family of six children. Mr. McCarthy is located in Ponca, where he is engaged in the practice of law; was prosecuting attorney of Dixon county from 1890 to 1896. He has always taken a deep interest in educational matters, arid the education of his children is his greatest ambition. Mr. McCarthy was a member of the house during the twenty-sixth session, and took a front rank as one of the Republican leaders.
