notified that the county doesn't allow any premiums on money paid out, then that the commissioners consider $25.00 exorbitant price for assessing and the account should be in a more definite form and request that the same be reduced and corrected. Carried.

Bill of Alex Albertson, road supervisor for Buchanan precinct for $4.00 was presented and ordered to be said out of road fund from Buchanan precinct.

Application for renewal for license to sell liquors etc., was presented by Henry J. Hudson and on motion of Mr. Speice, the same was granted by complying with the laws.

Application for renewal for license to sell liquors etc. was also presented by Joseph Russell and on motion of Mr. Gerrard, the same was granted. Accounts of Joseph Russell, road supervisor for Centre precinct and Alex Albertson, road supervisor for Buchanan precinct were presented and examined and on motion of Mr. Gerrard were accepted and ordered to be put on file.

Motion made by Russell that the county building tax for 1861 shall be paid with county warrants. Passed.

Motion made to adjourn agreed.

Special meeting of the Board of Commissioners of Platte County Held October 26th, 1861, at the Office of the County Clerk in Columbus.

Present, Messrs. Davis and Speice.

On motion of Mr. Speice, Mr. Davis was appointed chairman pro tem. The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and approved. A number of old and new accounts against the county were taken up and laid over until next meeting. On motion of Mr. Speice, the bonds of j. C. Wolfel, coroner; V. Kummer, treasurer; Daniel Welch, constable; F. B. Skinner, constable; Nelson Turner, justice of the peace; R. W. Corson, justice of the peace; Henry J. Hudson, justice of the peace; M. Weaver, justice of the peace; Jacob Guter, constable, and James E. North, sheriff were approved.

On Motion of Mr. Speice, resolved, that the hour of meeting be changed from 10 1/2 A.M. to1 O'clock P.M.

On motion, the board adjourned.

Regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners Held January 6th, 1862.

Present, Messrs. Speice, Davis and Kelly. Mr. Speice called to the chair.

The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and approved.

The bill of Mr. M. H. Clark of Omaha for printing assessment blanks coming under consideration it was moved by Mr. Kelly that the clerk be instructed to write to Mr. Clark and inquire if his offer of $20.00 in cash is still open and if it is, to draw an order in favor of M. H. Clark or bearer for $25.00..

The county treasurer presented his report which was accepted and ordered to be placed on file. The following bills were allowed:

On motion of Mr. Davis, the clerk was instructed to issue orders for the same. The bill of George Sard for election services in Monroe precinct was rejected, and the clerk instructed to inform Mr. Sard that the reason of its rejection was that the commissioners do not think it desirable that residents on Indian reservations should participate in our elections.

Renewal of license to sell liquors was granted to Francis G. Becher and Mrs. R. C. Baker for the term of six months.

License to sell liquors was granted to David Anderson for the term of six months. A petition was received from John Gallup, Henry Hoagland and others praying for the location of a county road commencing at the east line of the Pawnee Reserve and intersecting a road already established and after discussion thereon the matter was laid over until next regular meeting.

On motion of Mr. Kelly, resolved that the treasurer be instructed to pay to the territory the arrearage of $71.10 due the territory in the cancelled warrants which the county holds.

On motion of Mr. Davis, resolved that the clerk be instructed to procure the printing of as many assessment blanks as he shall consider necessary for the use of the county for the present year and also for the year 1863, and that he be authorized to contract for the same at as favorable rates as possible. Present Messrs. Speice and Kelly. The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and approved. The report of the county treasurer on school funds was read and ordered to be filed. The bills of Isaac Albertson for assessing Buchanan precinct the present year $15.00. Rickly for election services $1.50, J. L. Martin, grand jury service $3.90, Joseph Russell, election service $1.50, J. C. Wolfel for assisting sheriff as posse comitatus $3.00, J. C. Wolfel for election services $1.50, M. Weaver for election services etc. $7.50 and John Reck for assisting sheriff as posse $1.00.

The bill of Taylor and McClure for printing assessment blanks for $7.50 was allowed and an order on the treasurer payable out of the sinking fund of the county, was ordered to be issued.

The petition of E. A. Gerrard, Asher Flowers and twenty-four others was read and ordered to be filed, also a remonstrance against opening a road near the Loup Fork river near the village of Springville which was signed by F. G. Bishop, Nelson Turner and fourteen others which was ordered to be placed on file. On motion of Mr. Kelly, the petition of John Gallup, Henry Hoagland and others for the location of a road was granted and Henry J. Hudson was appointed a commissioner to view said road.

The report of George W. Galley, road supervisor for Columbus precinct was received and ordered to be placed on file. The bill of Rickly and Co. for lumber and spikes furnished Columbus road district was allowed and ordered to be paid out of the money belonging to the district, amount $4.60.

The bill of Rickly & Co. for plank and spikes furnished the Centre district for $9.95 was allowed and ordered to be paid out of the road fund of that district. The bill of Joseph Skinner for one days work on road as supervisor for $1.00 was allowed and ordered to be paid out of the road funds of Centre district. The bill of Joseph Russell late road supervisor of Centre district for $126.05 was allowed and ordered to be paid out of the road fund belonging to that district, when that amount is in the treasury in favor of said district. On motion of Mr. Kelly it was ordered that the sinking fund shall be used for the payment of the interest on county warrants which shall be payable yearly, whenever any county warrant shall have been drawing interest for one year. Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners of Platte County Held July 7th, 1862.

Mr. Speice in the chair. Present, commissioners Davis, Kelly and Speice.

The minutes of the preceding meeting were read, amended, and approved.

The bills of F. C. Johnson for $3.50 grand jury service; Geo. W. Stevens, election service; R. C. Jordan $25.00 for abstract from land office, Joseph Gerrard $8.00 for assessing Monroe precinct for 1862, F. G. Becher for $43.00 for assessing Columbus precinct for 1862. M. Smith for $1.50 for hauling laws and journals from Omaha in 1862. David Anderson $19.70 for assessing Centre precinct and election services, C. B. Stillman $76.24 for salary as county clerk, postage, paper and blank books, were allowed and orders ordered to be drawn on the treasury for the amount of each. The account of V. Kummer, county treasurer for printing, stationery, postage, etc., was allowed and an order to be drawn on the sinking fund for $8.51.

The accounts of Michael Weaver for $6.00 and Jacob Ernst for $10.00 for scraper furnished to Columbus road district were allowed and an order on the road fund of said district to be issued to them for that amount.

The bill of J. E. North for surveying road from Monroe to the Pawnee reserve for $6.00 was allowed, and ordered to be paid out of the general road fund of the county, at the disposal of the commissioners.

Application was made by George Spaulding and C. Clough for a license to sell malt, spirituous and vinous liquors at the stand generally known as Spaulding's Ranche for the term of six months, the bond having been approved, the clerk was instructed to issue license' to the parties upon their presenting the certificate of the county treasurer of their having paid in the customary amount to the county treasury. The clerk was instructed to issue an order to the supervisor of Monroe district not to open the road from Monroe, or so much of it as runs through the town of Springville until after the meeting in October.

The board then having reached the "Revenue" order of business, levied the following taxes:

Territorial tax one 1/2 mills per dollar; territorial sinking fund one mill per dollar; territorial school fund one mill per dollar; county tax including poor four mills per dollar; county school tax one mill per dollar; poll tax one dollar or one days labor; land tax of three dollars on each 160 acres for road purposes; county sinking fund one mill per dollar; Columbus precinct special school taxes as follows: For other purposes than payment of teachers, one mill on the dollar; for prolonging the primary schools two mills on the dollar; Centre precinct special school tax as follows: Upon the total valuation of property in said precinct $300.00. The bill of C. H. Whaley for $125.00 for services as judge of probate was laid on the table, being for services in Monroe county.

Special meeting of the board of commissioners held September 1st 1862.

Mr. Speice in the chair. Present, Commissioners Speice and Davis.

Minutes of preceding meeting read and approved. The bill of F. G. Becher for stationery for assessment roll for $2.50 was allowed and an order to be drawn on the treasury for that amount. On motion it was ordered that the treasurer correct the tax list of 1861 by deducting from the sum total assessed against Shinn and McMurray the sum of $1,000 as there is an obvious mistake to that amount and in case an affidavit is made by R. McMurray before the clerk that there is not a good quality of timber on the land which was assessed to said Shinn and McMurray the clerk shall issue an order in his favor for one-half the territorial county and school tax on the land. An order was ordered to be issued to L. M. Beebe for $2.10 on account of over assessment last year.

The petition of F. G. Bishop, Nelson Turner and thirteen others praying for a change in the road lately established from Columbus to the Pawnee Reserve was received, and Henry J. Hudson appointed to view said road.

On motion of Com. Davis, it was ordered that an election be held in the several precincts of Platte County for the election of the following officers on the second Tuesday in October, A.D. 1862.

Regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners held on Monday, Oct. 6th, 1862.

Mr. Speice in the chair.

Present Messrs. Speice, Davis and Kelly. The minutes read and approved. A communication from the Sec'y and Acting Governor of Nebraska was read, the subject matter of which was respecting Platte County offering a bounty for ten volunteers.

The bill of Messrs. Taylor and McClure for printing blank receipts for Road Supervisors $10.00 was read and an order passed on the County sinking fund for that amount.

The bill of Gustavus Becher for $79.00 for assisting the County Clerk in preparing the tax list was presented and an order ordered to be drawn on the treasury for that amount.

The bill of Gustavus Becher for cash paid for binding tax duplicates, etc., was presented and a warrant ordered to be drawn on the County sinking fund. It was ordered that an order be drawn on the treasury in favor of John Will for $4.00 for keeping pauper.

It was also ordered that a warrant be drawn on the treasury in favor of the Western Stage Company for $6.00 on account of over assessment in 1861 and for $5.00 for carrying pauper to Grand Island.

On motion of Mr. Davis, it was ordered that a warrant be drawn in favor of the Supervisor of Buchanan Road District for $25.00 for the benefit of the District.

The resignations of Michael Weaver, Justice of the Peace, Columbus Precinct, and Nelson Turner, Monroe Precinct, were received and on motion of Mr. Kelly were accepted.

The report of Geo. W. Galley, Supervisor of Columbus Road District, was received and accepted, and an order ordered to be drawn in his favor for the District on the County Road fund for $20.00.

The report of Alex Albertson, Supervisor of Buchanan District, was presented and on motion of Mr. Davis was accepted.

The semi-annual report of the Treasurer of Platte County was read and accepted, and the Treasurer presented cancelled warrants and certificates to the amount of $1,243.50. Mr. Kelly moved that said warrants be destroyed which was carried, and which was accordingly done by the County Clerk in the presence of the Commissioners.

On motion of Com. Davis, resolved that we issue County scrip to the amount of $500.00 the same to be redeemable by the County on the first day of July, A.D. 1864 by a special tax to be levied in June 1863 and that the same scrip may be applied by the holders of the same for the payment of the said special tax, said scrip to draw interest from date of issue at the rate of ten per cent per annun, and to be used in the payment of bounties to ten volunteers.

On motion of Mr. Kelly the board adjourned.

Special meeting of the Board of Commissioners of Platte County held October 27th, 1862.

The bills of John Kelly for service as County Commissioner $23.20, and $1.50 for election service were presented and on motion of Mr. Toncray were allowed.

The bills of C. A. Speice for $21.75 for Commissioner, election, and grand jury service were presented and on motion of Mr. Kelly were allowed and orders to be drawn on the treasury for the foregoing accounts.

The bill of James S. Taylor for services as attorney in attending suit for Buchanan Road District was laid on the table.

On motion of Mr. Toncray an order on the County Road fund was issued to Joseph Russell for $13.18 for the Centre Road District of which he is supervisor.

On motion of Mr. Toncray, Joseph Gerrard was appointed a justice of the Peace for Monroe precinct.

On motion of Mr. Toncray, J. M. B. Vandevert and Gilbert Hobert were appointed constables for Buchanan Precinct.

On motion of Mr. Kelly the bill of Vincent Kummer, County Treasurer, for $17-05 for books and stationery purchased for his office was allowed and an order to be drawn on the sinking fund of the County for that amount in his favor.

On motion of Mr. Toncray, the bonds of J. N. Gallup, constable, J. N. Taylor, County Surveyor, James S. Taylor, Prosecuting Attorney, J. Hobert and C. A. Speice, Justices of the Peace, were approved.

On motion of Mr. Kelly, resolved that the County Clerk be authorized whenever there are any funds in the treasury belonging to Centre Road District to draw orders on that fund in favor of Joseph Russell for the amount in the treasury until the amount of $126.05 allowed him by a resolution on Page 107 of these minutes shall have been paid.

On motion of Mr. Toncray the board adjourned.

Minutes of a meeting held January 5th, 1863.

Mr. Speice in the chair.

Present, Com. Speice, Kelly and Toncray.

The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and approved.

The petition of John Kumpf, Wm. Wetterer, and Martin Maron was presented and on motion of Mr. Kelly, it was ordered that all of Range Two East, Township Eighteen be attached to Columbus Precinct. The petition of David Anderson, C. B. Stillman and others praying that the Commissioners levy a tax of five thousand dollars to aid in constructing a bridge across the Loup Fork River was read and on motion of Mr. Toncray, resolved that the County Clerk give notice of an election to be held in the several precincts of Platte County on the seventh day of February, A.D. 1863, upon the question of levying a tax of five thousand dollars to assist in bridging the Loup Fork River.

The semi-annual report of the County Treasurer was received and on motion of Mr. Kelly was placed upon file.

The bill of H. M. Kemp was allowed as far as it related to his services as clerk of election--$2.00. The bill of Isaac Albertson for services at elections was allowed for $5.50. The hill of J. 13. North $4.00 for attending prisoners in court wasP allowed. The bill of Wm. Davis for services as commissioner $28.00 was also allowed. The bill of Robert Shackleton for grand jury service was allowed. The bill of V. Kummer, County Treasurer $8.50 for settling with the Territorial Treasurer was allowed and on motion of Mr. Kelly, orders were directed to be drawn on the treasury therefor.

The bill of Vincent Kummer, Co. Treasurer, for $1.14 for postage and stationery for the use of his office was allowed and an order to be issued on the County sinking fund for the amount.

The petition of John Held, M. Erb, John Kumpf and sixteen others praying for the establishment of a County Road from the bridge located by J. P. Becker on the big slough north of Columbus to or near a point on Shell Creek where the east line of Range One intersects with Shell Creek was read and on motion of Mr. Toncray. Vincent Kummer was appointed to view said road.

On motion of Mr. Kelly, John Reck was appointed justice of the Peace for Columbus precinct.

On motion of Mr. Toncray, the time of meeting was changed to 10 1/2 A.M.

On motion of Mr. Toncray, resolved that Gustavus Becher be authorized to prepare a map of Platte County and to have the maps bound in a substantial manner, and when completed if the Chairman and Clerk shall accept the work, they may draw an order on the sinking fund for the payment of said work at $1.25 per township and a reasonable price for binding.

On motion the board adjourned.

Meeting of the Commissioners of Platte County held April 6th, 1863.

The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and approved.

On motion of Mr. Kelly it was resolved that a license to sell liquor be granted to Henry j. Hudson for six months,, if he shall give a new bond.

It was ordered that a license to sell liquor be granted to G. W. Clother if he shall give a bond; dated this date, for six months.

The correspondence of E. B. Taylor was laid over until next meeting.

The report of V. Kummer, upon the location of a road to Shell Creek from Columbus was accepted and the following bills were allowed to be paid by orders on the Road fund of Columbus District:

The school report of the County Treasurer was presented and accepted.

The bill of Michael Weaver for election services of $4.00 was allowed. The bill of Joseph Skinner for $4.00 for election services was allowed. The bill of W. B. was allowed for $6.00, a deduction of $2.00 on mileage in returning poll books to County Clerk being made. The bill of H. M. Kemp for $2.00 for election services was allowed. The bill of Samuel Galley for $1.00 for bringing laws and journals from Omaha was allowed The bill of F. B. Skinner was allowed for $5.10, a deduction of 90 cents on mileage being made.

The bill of G. W. Stevens was not allowed on account of not being duly attested. The bill of Louis Phillipps. for $2.00 for election services was allowed. The bill of' J. E. North, Sheriff, for attending prisoners in court for $2.00 was allowed. The bill of C. B. Stillman for services as Co. Clerk was allowed for $75.00. On, motion of Mr. Toncray, resolved that orders be issued on the treasury for the above accounts.

Also the bill of John Kelly for $3.00 for his services. and his sons and team in assisting H. J. Hudson in surveying a road through Springville to Genoa was allowed to be paid by an order on the Road fund of Monroe District.

On motion of Mr. Toncray, resolved that $20.00 be allowed to J. S. Taylor as part of his salary as Prosecuting Attorney.

The reports of the several Road Supervisors were received and accepted, and ordered to be placed on file.

It was ordered that a County order be issued to Gustavus Becher for $25.00 and an order on the County sinking fund for $47.00 in payment for the Township maps of Platte County which he has made for the County.

John Rickly made verbal application for a license for a ferry across the Loup Fork River.

Mr. N. R. Hayes entered a protest against the granting of said license on the ground that himself and others. have a previous charter.

The matter was then laid over until the next meeting.

On motion of Mr. Toncray, resolved that an order be issued to Alex Albertson on the Road fund of Buchanan District, for $6.00 and to G. W. Galley for $11.95 on. Columbus Road District.

On motion, the board adjourned.

Minutes of the Board of Equalization held June 8th,. 9th and 10th 1863.

The assessors ordered to put on all movable improvements on government land.

In Buchanan List. $1.00 per acre to be added to the timber land of Daniel and James Hashberger.

Centre List. To be connected by taking from Augustus Kountze's assessment the land assessed to Thomas Russell and to Levi Eby.

Monroe List Add to A. J. Arnold lot No. 1. Sec. 23, and lots 2, 4, 5 and 6, Sec. 24, T 17 R2 west. 155 20/100 acres.

The assessors will put all prairie land at $2.50 per acre.

Centre List. From S. D. Shinns assessment take out lot No. 9, Sec. 1, town 16, R2E 3 40/100 acres.

All timberland to be assessed from $2.50 to $8.00 per acre.

Columbus List. In John Rickly's assessment, change the value of lots 1 and 2 block 183 from $2500 to $2000, and the assessment on Columbus lots to be corrected and equalized.
