Correspondence of Wyoming Coal Company, the Clerk was ordered to procure 3 carloads of Rock Spring coal at guaranteed weight at $10.80

Petitions of citizens of Humphrey and Stearns precincts asking the appointment of judges and clerks of election for said precincts for Humphrey, Walter Mead, D. Leach, L. C. LaBarre for judges, C. E. Roscoe, B. S. Dayton, Clerks; for Stearns, Rob. Gentleman, Wm. Gentleman; for judges, O. E. Stearns, John P. Brown, clerk.

Report of A. Miller, overseer, was read and bills allowed.

Motion, the overseer was ordered to supply necessary support for the family of Ezra N. Jones until the circumstances can be ascertained.

Report of Jacob Ernst, road supervisor for repairing Platte river bridge was read and on motion of Com. Early, report was accepted and bills allowed.

Motion of Com. Early, road supervisor, be instructed to take up the Mill Creek bridge, the materials to be used on the other bridges in the county.

Motion, the support of Douglas family be discontinued.

Action on the bridges as petitioned for was laid over for future action.

Communication from citizens of Walker precinct asking the appointment of H. G. D. Squires, a justice of the peace in Walker precinct. Motion of Com. Early, G. H. D. Squires was appointed to the office of justice of the Peace.

Motion of Com. Barnum that V. Kummer obtain a suitable lock and iron shutter for the treasurer's office.

At an adjourned meeting of the Board of County Commissioners held in the Court House, October 5th, 1872.

Roll called. Present, full board.

Reading of minutes dispensed with till regular meeting.

The commissioners resolved themselves into a committee of inspection and proceeded to view the banks 0f the Platte River with a view to secure the bridge and ordered James E. North, Esqr., to prepare plans and specifications, also an estimate for throwing up an embankment and to make a levee to protect the Platte river bridge.

On motion, the Clerk was ordered to invite bids and proposals to build said levee till October 22nd 1872, 10 o'clock A. M.

Motion to adjourn till the 15th day of October A. D. 1872, at 10 A. M.

Minutes were read and approved.

Com. of C. E. Stillman asking for continued support to Matthew Douglas of beef to the amount of 3 and 4 dollars per week was discussed and on motion of Guy C. Barnum, the overseer is ordered to procure a weekly allowance of beef for Matthew Douglas not to exceed $2 per week. Barnum and Early voting 'aye', G. W. Galley voting 'no'.

Com. of C. R. Clark of Polk county claiming $7.00 for notifying the friends of John Marti of his death was referred to Dr. C. B. Stillman, coroner, as the friend of Marti had authorized the settlement of all expenses incurred at the death of John Marti killed by lightning.

Report of Andrew Mathias, road supervisor Bismark precinct, up to Sept. 24th 1872 received and placed on file and bill for work and labor performed allowed $70.00.

Report of F. Fields, road commissioner, appointed to locate 2 roads in Shell Creek precinct petitioned for by D. Magoon and others was accepted and ordered on Road Record and bills allowed.

The Commissioners took under advisement the plan submitted by J. E. North, Esqr., for securing the Platte river bridge when it was decided to abandon sheet piling and on motion of Com. Barnum, James E. North Was ordered to prepare specifications and estimates for embankment to be constructed of earth and brush for the protection of the banks of the river to secure the land pier of Platte River bridge.

The Board of H. G. D. Squires, justice of the peace in Walker precinct was approved and ordered filed.

At an adjourned meeting of the Board of Co. Commissioners held in the Court House, October 22nd 1872 at 10 o'clock A. M. for the purpose of receiving bids for the construction of an embankment along the Platte River near the Platte River bridge.

Reading of the minutes of last meeting were dispensed with till regular meeting.

Motion we now proceed to open the bids, it being one hour past the time for receiving bids and proposals.

The following bids were opened and considered.

Ephraim Smith $125.00, county to furnish scrapers or $10.00 the bidder to furnish all labor and tools.

L. M. Beebe 25 cents per cubic yard or $114.00 as per estimate and specifications of 456 yd.

J. M. Kelly, 22 cents per yard or $100 32/100 as per estimate and specifications of 456 yards.

Motion of Com. Barnum that the contract to construct the embankment and grade be let to John M. Kelley and that he furnish a bond in double the amount of contract price, the Clerk to approve said bond.

Motion to adjourn till the 6th day of November 1872 at 10 o'clock A. M.

At a Regular Meeting of the Board of Co. Commissioners held in the Court House on the 6th day of November 1872.

Unfinished business having been disposed of, the Clerk announced the bonds of Abner Turner, Esqr., commissioner elect, approved by the probate judge. He thereupon took his seat, Geo. W. Galley, Esqr., retiring from the Board.

Resignation of M. Clother, constable for Columbus precinct was read and on motion of Corn. Turner was accepted and vacancy declared.

Petitions from citizens asking the appointment of Charles Wake and Frank Fields, constables. Filed.

Motion of Com. Turner that as there were two constables needed for Columbus precinct and there being two vacancies that Charles Wake and Frank Fields he appointed to fill said vacancies till the next general election.

Communication of John Regan by his attorney, judge Higgins claiming damage by reason of the location of county road north of Shell Creek running from Scully's bridge was laid over for proof of ownership of land and description.

Report of county physician for October was filed.

Motion of Com. Barnum, the Clerk was ordered to inquire into the circumstances of Harry Strong that had been moved by the county of Platte.

Motion of Com. Barnum, Augustus Millers justice of the peace Columbus Precinct, was allowed 2 quires of legal cap paper per month.

Claim of John Shenehan for damages by reason of location of county road was presented, and $15.00 per acre allowed for what land might be found taken by said road.

The tax list for the year 1872 was presented by the county Clerk when upon motion of Com. Turner, the same was accepted and signed by the Board of County Commissioners, and ordered to be delivered to the county treasurer for collection, as provided by law.

Report of Supervisor Ernst was presented, accepted and bills allowed.

Report of Supervisor Mathias was presented, accepted and bills allowed.

Report of J. E. North, Esqr., that the embankment of Platte river bridge was completed according to plan and specifications.

Motion of Com. Barnum that the contract be accepted and an order for the amount of contract be drawn in favor of J. M. Kelly, contractor.

Report of Peter Duffy, road supervisor Monroe precinct, was read and allowed.

Motion of Com. Turner, the county surveyor prepare maps for the several districts for the use of road supervisors.

Motion of Com. Barnum, John G. Routson was appointed commissioner to view and locate two roads petitioned for H. G. D. Squires and others commencing at the S. E. corner of Sec. 25, T 19, R west and running on other side of Shell Creek to N W corner of county and that said commissioner report as to the prospect of right of way being obtained without cost to the county or otherwise to report before locating the said roads.

Motion of Corn. Barnum, the treasurer is authorized to strike off from the tax lists all delinquents prior to the year 1865 in Platte county and the Clerk was ordered to notify the State Auditor to strike off state taxes for said years.

The following receipt was presented by the Clerk:

The following bonds were approved:

L. C. Labarre, assessor Humphrey Precinct; Andreas Mathias Rd. Supervisor and Benjamin Spielman, assessor Bismark Precinct; James Byrne, supervisor Monroe precinct; Michael Morrissey, assessor Walker precinct.

The commissioner compared warrants of the several funds cancelled by the county Clerk, and found them correct and destroyed the following amounts.

COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, 1875-1880

The proceedings of the Platte County Commissioners, regular meeting held at Court House May 18, 1875. John Hammond in the chair.

Roll called. Present: Commissioners John Hammond, M. Maher, A. Rose and F. G. Becher, clerk.

F. Ritter of Lost Creek Precinct presented an application for assistance recommended by the county physician, the overseer of that Precinct being absent. Motion that the clerk be authorized to issue an order for medicine and provisions for said F. Ritter.

Mr. Barclay Jones applied for lease of school land upon the SE of SE1/4 Section 36 T 18 R3W which was granted and given.

Road supervisor Lisco of District 11 demanded order for plank for Platte River bridge -- laid over until next meeting.

Matter of contest for the office of road supervisor of District 7 between John Gogan and John Walker was called as per resolution passed April 14, 1875.

Thomas Galligan of same district presented a petition numerously signed for the appointment as the supervisor for said District 7 and each party for himself presented their case and arguments and upon hearing same, Commissioner Maher made a motion-no definite conclusion could be given at this meeting-it should be laid over until next regular meeting.

Peter Reinheimer, guardian of James Murie, furnished his report required by the Board.

Clerk reported resignation of J. Gogan as justice of the peace for Pleasant Valley Precinct; also presented petition for the appointment of Patrick Ducey to fill vacancy. Matter laid over for the present.

Communication from Patrick Gleason as to condition of road across his land was read and the District 9 supervisor ordered to attend to same.

Road supervisor William Bloedorn of District 8 requested order for plank and stringers for culverts in his district.

John Wolfel, employed to construct a dam near the Platte River bridge to protect the same, and the bank of the river, rendered his report, which was accepted and ordered to be filed.

John H. Lawson, appointed road supervisor for District 6 in place of Peter Duffy, deceased, furnished his bond, which was approved.

On motion clerk was directed to furnish four logs for stringers to Terrance Brady and others to bridge Shell Creek on the road known as Brady's Road.

 

A special meeting of County Commissioners was held June 10, 1875 -- John Hammond, chairman. Roll called. Present: Commissioners J. Hammond, M. Maher and A. Rose.

The building of a bridge across Shell Creek in Burrows Precinct under the supervision of J. Moriarty as the road supervisor was discussed, and on motion of Commissioner Rose that Mr. Moriarty be requested to cease for the present with the erection of said bridge and until action be taken at next meeting.

Communication from E. O. Stearns showed complaint as to the road supervisor of District g; also a communication from H. T. Spoerry relative to a bridge built by the Road Supervisor of District 4 across Spoerry Creek was read, and on motion of Commissioner Rose the same be filed.

The regular meeting of commissioners of Platte County was held June i, 1875. J. Hammond, chairman. Roll called. Present: M. Maher and A. Rose, and F. G. Becher, clerk.

The County Treasurer made a statement that the Union Pacific Railroad objects to paying part of their taxes for the year 1874. The Board resolved that the County Treasurer be authorized to proceed to Omaha to obtain legal advice.

The Board then considered the propriety of purchasing a piece of school land for a poor farm at the public sale of such lands next week, and on motion- of Commissioner Hammond, the Board adjourned until tomorrow at ten o'clock A.M., and proceed this
afternoon to examine and select a piece of such school land.

Wednesday, June 16, 1875, the board met as per adjournment. John Hammond, chairman; full Board present.

H. T. Spoerry appeared in person and complained again as to the way the bridge across Spoerry Creek is being built by the Road Supervisor, and the Board finally determined not to interfere with the said supervisor's duties unless charges of malfeasance in office are presented in writing.

The commissioners thereupon argued and debated on the propriety of purchasing a poor farm and several offers having been made by different parties to sell their farms or land, it was on motion of Commissioner Hammond resolved, that we proceed in a body at two P.M. to view and inspect several of the said farms of-
